As a Clinical Psychologist, Katherine's fees reflect her training, and years of clinical experience.
As of 1 July 2025 fees are $285 for a 50-minute consultation
Fees are lower than the Australian Psychological Society (APS) National Schedule of Recommended Fees. For the 2026–2027 APS Schedule, the recommended fee is $330.
Under the Better Access Initiative, clients with a valid GP Mental Health Treatment Plan can claim a Medicare rebate for psychological therapy. The current Medicare rebates for a 50-minute consultation with a Clinical Psychologist is $149.05 per session. This rebate applies to Telehealth sessions.
How Medicare Rebates Work
After booking and attending a therapy session (50 mins) with our service you can claim a Medicare Rebate. To access a referral and plan to receive these rebates, you will need to book a long consult with your GP and ask for a referral under a Mental Health Care Plan. You can claim up to 10 rebates each calendar year (1 Jan to 31 Dec).
You then pay the full session fee on the day of your appointment, and with your permission we can process your Medicare claim for you.
Medicare deposits the rebate (usually within 24–48 hours) into your nominated bank account.
Your out‑of‑pocket cost is the difference between the session fee and the rebate.
Extended Medicare Safety Net (EMSN)
If your you and/or your family reaches the EMSN threshold, Medicare will cover 80% of any further out‑of‑pocket costs for the rest of the calendar year.
Private Health Insurance
Depending on your level of cover, you may be able to claim a portion of your session fee through your private health insurer. Please contact your health fund directly to confirm your eligibility and rebate amount.
Attending Privately (no Medicare)
You are most welcome to attend privately, in this case you do not need a referral from your GP or any other professional. Sessions in this case are $285 per 50 minute session with no rebate.
Let the reception team know you're booking to get a Mental Health Care Plan as you may need a longer consult. If you feel nervous, that’s okay. Be honest with your doctor about what’s been going on and why you're seeking support.
Your GP will ask a few questions and may give you some questionnaires to complete. If you're eligible, they can prepare a Mental Health Care Plan or in some cases, an Eating Disorder Treatment Plan, which allows for more sessions under Medicare.
Make sure your GP also includes a referral letter addressed to your chosen psychologist Katherine Sayer-Jones at Healing Place Psychology Practice. This is required to claim the Medicare rebate a copy of the plan alone isn’t enough.
Once you’ve booked your first session at Healing Place Psychology, please email your referral letter to katherine@healingplacepsychology.com.au before your first appointment. You can also ask your GP to send it directly to us via email.
We’re an online therapy practice, offering all sessions via Telehealth.
